Najd

Modern-day: Saudi Arabia

Najd, the central plateau region of the Arabian Peninsula, is geographically and historically distinct from the Hejaz, the western coastal region containing Mecca and Medina. Diriyah, Najd's historic center, was the site of the 1744 pact between the reformer Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and the local ruler Muhammad ibn Saud.
