1865–1935 CE · Islamic reformer; founder of the journal Al-Manar
Rashid Rida
Rashid Rida founded the journal Al-Manar in Cairo in 1898 to continue Muhammad Abduh's reformist project, describing his aim as recovering "the views of the early pious generation." His thought moved over time toward the more literalist, textualist approach associated with Ibn Taymiyyah, a shift historians treat as a pivotal hinge between Abduh's rationalist modernism and twentieth-century literalist Salafism.
