Muhammad ibn Saud ruled Diriyah, a small town in the Najd region of central Arabia, when he entered his 1744 pact with Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab: political and military backing for his expansion across the Arabian Peninsula in exchange for enforcing the reformer's doctrinal program.
