Abu Hanifa (Nu'man ibn Thabit)

Abu Hanifa's school formed within the highly urbanised, ethnically mixed environment of Kufa, and his own position permitting female judges in non-criminal matters is cited as evidence of genuine early juristic diversity on the question, later narrowed as other schools gained state patronage in different regions (Tucker, 2008).
