Hadith
Sahih Muslim
"Do not write anything from me except the Qur'an... whoever has written anything from me other than the Qur'an should erase it." Sits in tension with reports that 'Abdallah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As kept a written collection (al-Sadiqa) with the Prophet's reported approval, and with hadith commanding transmission ("convey from me, even one verse").
